When I joined the staff in Beeville, photography became a focal point of my job. At a community newspaper, you have to be a do-it-all, which means you spend plenty of time behind a camera.

At the time, I would have listed photography as my weak point. Now, though, I would probably rank it as one of my biggest strengths. I’ve learned through, more or less, through trial and error and by seeking out advice from the long list of great photographers I’ve met over my years in the business.
